Etsy Share & Save links, and how to use them alongside Shopify

Share & Save is Etsy's way of rewarding sellers who bring their own customers instead of relying on Etsy search. You share a special link, and qualifying orders that come through it earn you a credit against your Etsy fees. If you run both an Etsy shop and a Shopify store, it is worth understanding — including the case for not using it.

What Share & Save actually is

Etsy generates a unique share link for your shop and for each listing. When a buyer arrives through that link and orders, Etsy credits you a percentage of the order total — 4% at the time of writing — against your seller fees. Orders driven by your own link are also outside the Offsite Ads fee, since Etsy did not pay to acquire that visitor.

The mechanics are simple: get the link from your Etsy shop dashboard, use it wherever you would have linked to your shop anyway — Instagram bio, TikTok, newsletter, a pinned post — and the attribution is handled for you.

The awkward question if you also run Shopify

Sending traffic to Etsy with a Share & Save link means that sale is an Etsy sale. You pay Etsy's fees minus the credit, you do not own the customer relationship, and the buyer's email stays with Etsy. On your own Shopify store you keep the margin and the customer. So the honest framing is not "how do I use Share & Save on Shopify" — it is "which traffic is worth sending to Etsy at all".

A reasonable split most sellers land on:

  • Traffic you own — your email list, your website visitors, repeat customers — goes to Shopify. There is no reason to pay a marketplace fee on a customer you already have.
  • Traffic that trusts Etsy more than it trusts you — cold social audiences, first-time gift buyers, anyone nervous about paying an unfamiliar site — can go to Etsy through your Share & Save link. The credit takes the edge off the fees, and Etsy's buyer protection is doing real work in that transaction.
  • Listings that only exist on Etsy, or stock you are clearing there, go to Etsy either way, so always use the link.

What not to do

  • Do not put Etsy links on your Shopify product pages. You have already paid to get that visitor onto a page with a buy button — pushing them to a marketplace to complete the purchase costs you the margin and the customer for no gain.
  • Do not click your own links to farm the credit. Etsy checks, and the programme terms are explicit about it.
  • Do not let the Etsy listing be the only place your reviews and photos live. Whatever happens to the fee structure, the social proof is yours and should be on a site you control.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Etsy Share & Save pay?

4% of the qualifying order total as a credit against your Etsy fees at the time of writing, plus no Offsite Ads fee on those orders. Etsy sets the rate and can change it — confirm in your dashboard.

Can I use a Share & Save link on my Shopify store?

Technically yes, and it makes sense in blog posts, an about page or anywhere you are explaining that you also sell on Etsy. It is a bad idea on product pages, where you would be sending a ready-to-buy shopper to a competitor of your own checkout.

Do share links work for individual listings?

Yes — there is a shop-level link and a per-listing link. Listing links convert better because the buyer lands on the item they were promised rather than your shop front.

Does the credit apply to every order?

Only to orders Etsy attributes to your share link. Someone who clicks your link, leaves, and comes back a week later through Etsy search is an Etsy-attributed sale with normal fees.
