The best Shopify add-on and bundle apps, compared

Search the App Store for "product add-ons" and you get product options apps, bundle apps and upsell apps returned together as if they were interchangeable. They are not — they solve different problems and the wrong one will fight your store for months. This compares the main options, explains which category each belongs to, and says plainly where our own app is not the right answer.

The best Shopify add-on and bundle apps, compared guide visual

First, work out which of three things you need

Almost every bad decision in this category is a category error rather than a vendor one. Product options and add-ons are not the same thing, and bundles are a third thing again:

  • Product options — customising the item itself. Engraving text, a monogram, a colour swatch, a file upload. The customer buys one product, configured. Shopify caps native variants, which is why these apps exist.
  • Add-ons — buying an extra thing alongside the main one. Gift wrap, a spare filter, insurance, a matching case. Two products, one click, and the add-on needs to reach the order as something you can actually fulfil and account for.
  • Bundles — several products sold together, usually at a discount. The hard part is not the offer, it is the inventory: does the bundle have its own stock, or does it decrement the components?

An app built for one of these can usually be forced to do another badly. Options apps that fake add-ons through line-item properties are the most common example, and the one that causes real accounting problems later.

The apps, side by side

AppPriceRating (reviews)Category & notable
FBP | Fast Bundle & UpsellFree (dev) / $19 / $49 / $1395.0 (3,039)Bundles & upsell. Built for Shopify, the largest review base here, and priced by order volume rather than features.
Bundler » Product BundlesFree / $9.99 / $19.994.9 (2,556)Bundles. Built for Shopify, a genuinely usable free tier, volume discounts and quantity breaks. Best value in the table.
Infinite Options (ShopPad)$12.994.7 (2,434)Product options, with add-on pricing bolted on. Built for Shopify, conditional logic, long track record.
Shopify BundlesFree2.8 (542)Bundles, first-party and free — but capped at 3 options and 100 variants, and reviewers report it is workable only for the simplest cases.
APO Product Options (Mageworx)Free (dev) / $14.99 / $29.994.7 (473)Product options. Built for Shopify, 31 option types, dimensional price calculators. The heavyweight for complex configuration.
Boostify Upsell Product AddonsFree / $7.99No reviews yetAdd-ons proper. Free tier, add-ons as real line items with inventory tracked across products, bulk assignment.

Which one should you pick?

  • You want bundles and you want the safest bet — Bundler. A free tier that genuinely works, 2,556 reviews and a Built for Shopify badge is hard to argue with at any price, let alone nothing.
  • You are running real volume through bundles and upsells — Fast Bundle. The pricing is aimed at stores where the AOV lift comfortably covers $19 or more a month; below that volume it is expensive.
  • Your products are configured rather than accompanied — Infinite Options for straightforward custom fields, APO if you need conditional logic, 31 option types or dimensional pricing. Neither is an add-on app, and neither pretends to be.
  • You want first-party and free, and your bundles are genuinely simple — Shopify Bundles. Read the reviews first: the 2.8 rating is not an accident, and the 3-option cap bites quickly.
  • You want add-on products, charged properly, with stock tracked — Boostify Upsell Product Addons. Add-ons arrive as real line items rather than notes, and inventory decrements across the products they are attached to.

Being straight about our own listing: Boostify Upsell Product Addons has no App Store reviews yet, in a category where the alternatives have thousands. If a public track record is what you need before installing anything, Bundler is the honest recommendation and it is free. Our free tier gives you one add-on offer, which is enough to test whether add-ons move your average order value at all before anyone pays anything — that is the case for trying it, and it is the whole case.

Questions to ask before installing any of them

  1. How does the extra reach the order? If the answer is "line-item properties", it is a note attached to a product and it does not charge money on its own. Someone has to invoice it by hand, and eventually nobody does.
  2. What happens to inventory? An add-on or bundle component that does not decrement real stock will oversell, and the oversell emails cost more than the correct app would have.
  3. Does it work with your theme without code? Anything requiring a developer to install is a cost you should count, and a thing that breaks at your next theme update.
  4. What does it do to page speed? These widgets sit near the buy button and often load their own scripts. Run PageSpeed Insights before and after.
  5. What happens on uninstall? Options and add-ons stored only in the app disappear with it, sometimes taking the meaning of historical orders with them.

The inventory question is the one people skip and regret — the bundle stock decision, in detail covers what each answer commits you to.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between product options and product add-ons?

Options customise the item being bought — engraving text, a colour, an uploaded file — and produce one configured product. Add-ons are separate products bought alongside it, like gift wrap or a spare part, and each needs to arrive on the order as its own line item you can pick, pack and account for. Apps that blur the two usually do it by attaching notes to a product, which does not charge money.

Is there a free Shopify bundles app?

Several. Bundler has a free plan with no revenue cap and 2,556 reviews behind it, and Shopify's own free Bundles app exists but is limited to 3 options and 100 variants with a 2.8 rating. Our own add-ons app has a free tier capped at one add-on offer, which is a testing tier rather than a full one.

Do add-ons actually increase average order value?

Well-chosen ones do, because they never compete with the purchase — nobody abandons a cart because gift wrap was offered. The lift comes from relevance and placement rather than volume of offers. Give any change two full weeks and enough orders to mean something before judging it.

Will an add-ons app slow my product pages down?

It can. These widgets sit near the buy button, and one that loads its own JavaScript before rendering causes visible pop-in and pushes the button down as it appears. Prefer apps using a theme app extension that renders in the theme, and measure with PageSpeed Insights before and after installing.

Can I use a bundles app and an options app together?

Yes, and plenty of stores do, since they solve different problems. Watch for two widgets stacking in the same spot on the product page, and for the combined script weight — two apps loading their own bundles is the most common cause of a product page that got slow for no obvious reason.
